For thousands of years gemstones have been utilized for mental, physical and spiritual healing. Used alongside more traditional practices, crystals have been used to cure ailments, protect against illness, disease, and injury, to provide mental balance, promote grounding and to work with us on balancing energies and spiritual ailments.
Supporters and believers of this alternative healing method continue to believe that certain stones and crystals act as conduits for healing by allowing positive energies to flow from stone to body, allowing us to release negative energy from our bodies.
“In a crystal we have clear evidence of the existence of a formative life principle, and though we cannot understand the life of a crystal, it is nonetheless a living being” Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla, a renowned inventor, electrical & mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist spoke of all things in the universe being “forms of energy with their own frequency and vibration” and was able to prove how certain forms of energy can change the frequency of vibrations within other forms of energy. This is why many of us continue to utilise and believe in the healing power of these beautiful gems.
Many, many cultures have used stones for healing purposes since the dawn of time. They did so way back when the proof was not yet “in the pudding” so to speak. This alone, I feel, speaks volumes. Today practitioners and healers, like myself, are backed with scientific studies and even though it is a slow progress the evidence is mounting as we continue to look into these amazing stones.
From Romans, Egyptians and Greeks to the Native American and Indians, crystals were used as talismans and amulets thousands and thousands of year ago to enhance health, provide soldiers with protection during battle and sailors while at sea, attracting lovers and manifesting desires.
Whether you’re a sceptic or a believer the question remains. Why do these stones exist? I asked this question to a sceptic once and his response was “ for us to enjoy because they are beautiful to look at”. I thought about this for a moment and then replied.
“ Flowers are beautiful, easy to pick, everywhere for us to see. I believe that along with other purposes this is one purpose for flowers. But crystals? They grow deep within our earth, they are mined through countless hours of hard labour. They are hidden like treasures waiting to be found. If that was their purpose wouldn’t they be easier to retrieve?” He pondered on this and perhaps he has since looked into the studies and even purchased a few for himself…who knows?
What I do know is that there is a magic within the stones, an energy that the ancients knew about without needing the physical proof we desire today. Fads come and go….crystals and their use for healing have outlived our ancestors and will surely outlive us. Seeing is not always believing…sometimes feeling should guide us, sometimes the potential and power is beyond what our eyes can see.
