Description
Ankh- Black obsidian hand carved
The Ankh means life or eternal life and is therefore known as the key of life and breath of life. It is one of the oldest commonly known signs for life. It is perhaps the first cross. The Ankh offers eternal life and dates back to ancient Egypt where we see it held by many deities, it is strongly associated with Isis the Goddess of fertility, healing and magic and by extension her adopted son Anubis, as he weighs the soul of those who wish to pass into the underworld after death. He is seen carrying it in many hieroglyphs symbolising eternal life offered.
The Ankh may also be seen as representing air, water, and sun, these elements basis for life. Often found on stone, sarcophagi, it may also signify the connection between heaven and earth. As it is a symbol of life we have pondered also if it can also be seen as a symbol of sacred union between man and woman to create life. The Ankh is also known to be used in ancient Syria, Canaan and Crete linking to life and immortality.
Looking at it’s meanings and history, we see the Ankh being an awesome ally in the home or as a symbol worn, offering protection and eternal life as we journey through our own life, perhaps enhancing our own thought processes to fertilise and grow our own ideas and manifestations.
Black Obsidian is a beautiful grounding, protective stone that will shield you from negative energies around you. And as such it is a beautiful combination of both energies of the crystal and the Ankh.
